dedede has undergone some changes. most notably, his super jump has been improved, so that it can now be performed while airborne. dedede is also now granted a new final smash, dedede-fire: king dedede jumps into the air, shooting fireballs with his hammer in the form of a star. dedede's inhale move is now capable of inhaling projectiles and then spitting them back out.

king dedede has received a huge buff. his up and neutral aerial is now a much more powerful move, as it can now be performed without releasing the button. dedede's down aerial is still considered a ko move, but now has a new animation in which he punches his hammer into the ground, and then the opponent is launched into the air, similar to the neutral aerial of kirby. down aerial is now slightly more powerful, as it can now be performed with just the left analog stick. his forward aerial is now an invincible move, however; dedede can now no longer be grabbed by the opponent, meaning that it will not have the knockback effect of the neutral aerial of kirby. dedede is also now granted a new final smash, dedede-fire: king dedede jumps into the air, shooting fireballs with his hammer in the form of a star. dedede's inhale move is now capable of inhaling projectiles and then spitting them back out.

stage 2, room 2 in this game features a tunnel in which kirby must proceed through with a series of rolling balls, enemy waves, and a boss that appears from the ground. the enemies will knock kirby back, and if he's not careful he can fall off the edge of the stage, which will ko him. if he does manage to kill all of the enemies, he can enter a new room where he will fight a giant robot-type enemy. while this enemy is no where near as dangerous as the one from super star (who is a gigantic giant face that attacks with a powerful punch), kirby must still be careful to avoid getting hit by it.
