[S1E1] Way Of The Ninja
Skulkin were acting on the orders of Lord Garmadon, the evil older brother of Sensei Wu himself. They had been battling for most of their lives, Garmadon constantly seeking a means of escaping his prison in the Underworld. Wu then told Kai that he sensed the "fire" within him, which would allow Kai to save Nya. Wu spoke of a catch, however: He would first have to train to be a ninja. Kai was extremely confused, but he complied.
[S1E1] Way of the Ninja
At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Sensei Wu immediately put Kai through the training course in the courtyard. After a few tries, Kai successfully completed the course, and Sensei Wu told him that his final test would be the day after. Satisfied with his progress, Kai prepared for bed, only to be ambushed by three mysterious black ninja.
Kai: Ninja? Huh, you're a long way from finding a ninja in these parts, old man. And the shop is called "Four Weapons," not "For Browsing." Either buy something or go peddle your insults somewhere else.
Kai: (Talking to himself and gesturing wildly.) Oh yeah?! Well take this! (The first ninja lands silently near the front door, wielding a pair of nunchucks.) And this! (The second ninja lands in the corner of the room possessing a pair of shurikens.) And this! (Kai then comes face to face with the third ninja, who is holding a scythe.)
The episode starts out ordinarily enough, with the as-yet unnamed Old Mysterious Asian Guy coming into a sword shop run by Kai, the blacksmith, and his sister, Nya. The Old Mysterious Asian guy says something pseudo-profound (like something from a fortune cookie), the sword shop gets attacked, and all heck breaks loose. Nya, the only female for miles around gets kidnapped by the bad guys (of course), Kai begins his ninja training with the Old Man, who now has a name (Master Wu), and so our story begins.
In the opening sequence, Kai and the Old Man are talking about samurai and ninja. Both are names of different kinds of warriors from Japan. So obviously, one would think, the Land of Ninjago is based on a village from old Japan, if a village from old Japan were made out of Lego. So if Kai and Nya are Japanese, why is Nya wearing Chinese clothing? (See illustration below. Just pretend the blouse on the left is red).
A solitary wanderer meets Kai, a young sword-maker, and his sister Nia in their small farming village right before a terrifying skeleton army arrives, ransacking their shop. The army takes a map hidden by their father years ago and Nia! The wanderer turns out to be Sensei Wu, an old friend of their father's. He promises to help Kai find his sister, but first Kai must become a ninja and master the art of spinjitzu. Kai begins his training and soon meets Sensei Wu's other ninja's, who realize they've all been recruited for very specific skill sets.
Ninjago (previously known as Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu until 2019) is a computer-animated television series. The show was produced by Wil Film ApS from the pilot episodes until the tenth season and by WildBrain Studios for the last five seasons. It is distributed by The Lego Group. It was created to coincide with the Lego Ninjago construction toys, and centres on the fictional world of Ninjago, telling the story of a group of teenage ninja and their battles against the forces of evil.
On their quest to find and protect the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu, the ninja travel to the Caves of Despair to obtain the first Golden Weapon, the Scythe of Quakes, but the Skulkin are already there. The Scythe is also protected by an earth dragon.
The ninja successfully recover three of the four Golden Weapons from their guardian dragons, leaving only the Sword of Fire. Garmadon uses Nya to lure Kai into an ambush at the Fire Temple, while Samukai steals the golden weapons from the other ninja. Wu saves Kai and Nya from Garmadon's shadow, then takes the Sword of Fire into the Underworld to keep it separated from the other Golden Weapons.
Samukai and the Skulkin army return to the Underworld with the Golden Weapons, and the ninja follow them, by riding on the backs of the guardian dragons. In the Underworld, they defeat the Skulkin using the Tornado of Creation. Samukai fights Wu and takes the Sword of Fire, but the combined power of the golden weapons proves to be too much for him. A portal to an unknown realm is created in the process, which Garmadon uses to escape the Underworld.
When Ultra Violet learns that the Ninja have gone missing, she and The Mechanic plan to escape. In the escape route, they begin to discuss about who is the worst ninja. They are soon interrupted by Fugi-Dove, an infamous criminal. They continue talking along the route. Once they have escaped, P.I.X.A.L catches them and they are thrown back into their cells.
These mini movies were released in 2011 and show the lives of the ninja between the pilot episodes and the first season. They also show how Lord Garmadon was banished to the Underworld and then managed to take over.
