Where You Lead I Will Follow [UPDATED]
Inspired by the Book of Ruth, where it says: "Where you go, I will go",[2][citation needed] "Where You Lead" was described by Rolling Stone Magazine critic Jon Landau as an "ingratiatingly witty song that seems to parody the romantic extremes of some of Carole's earlier work."[3] Landau also praises the power of Russ Kunkel's drumming on the song.[3] Author James Perone states that a superficial reading of the lyrics could suggest that the song reinforces stereotypes that a woman should not put her desire for a career ahead of pleasing her husband.[4] But he goes on to say that the singer has actually made "an informed and empowered decision" to follow her man "because of the life changing impact" the relationship has had on her.[4]

Led (which rhymes with head) is the past tense of the verb lead (which rhymes with need). Aside from the similar spellings, people might get confused because they assume lead will follow the same pattern as a similar-looking verb like read. The past tense of read is read. The past tense of lead is led.
We have seen that lead has several meanings, but it is chiefly used as verb to mean to be at the head of something or to be in front in a race, game etc. It can be useful (sometimes) to think of lead as the opposite of the verb to follow. As lead is a verb, it must agree with its subject.
